2009 PMGA Annual Membership Meeting Summary

The 2009 Annual Membership meeting was held on Wednesday, October 14 at the Papago Park Ramada Lagoon. We had a nice meal prepared by a local taco vendor for approximately 25 PMGA members and guests.

We held a general discussion about the business of the club, our future direction, the status of Papago Golf Course and elected board members for 2010. The new addition to the Board for next year is Peter Hammer.   Chris Hanks was re-appointed President in 2010 with Jimmy Roam elected to Vice President - Jimmy will be the 2011 President. A big thanks to outgoing Board member Tim Kopp who resigned from the board due to work schedule conflicts - we know Tim will continue to support the Board and your Association.  Other 2010 Board members are Mike Edgcomb, Bob Baldwin, Rick Chervin, Dale Redger, Chuy Lara and RB French.

The Board was directed by the membership present to investigate alternatives to the Arizona Golf Association Handicapping Service.  The AGA is raising annual dues to $35 per member, a $10 increase.  There are alternative services that would cost less for the PMGA to provide an official handicap and we must weigh those potential savings against the value we feel the AGA provides to us as members.  We have published the 2010 Membership Application with the understanding that you will still be an AGA member in 2010.  We have not elected to cancel our AGA membership, we are just investigating alternatives as we go forward.

The event schedule for 2010 was presented and discussed.  The discussions about the dates and formats resulted in the Member – Guest and the Bangkok being reversed to provide spacing between the Antelope Hills Bangkok and the PMGA Bangkok.  The Club Championship has been moved up a month to September, this was requested after determining the course maintenance schedule for 2010 and wanting to avoid the overseed preparations.  The final 2010 schedule can be seen on the Tournaments page.

Your weather just got better.

NEW LOCAL RULES SHEET

The PMGA strives to conduct fair and enjoyable events for its membership.  Avoiding rules infractions and disagreements contributes to both of those goals.  LOCAL RULES are the responsibility of the Committee (Rule 33).  The PMGA "Committee" has provided a new local rules sheet to be used for all play and competitions at Pagago Golf Course.  We will be providing these at all events and at the posting computer in the golf shop.  You may also print one using the tab located on this screen.  All PMGA members should familiarize themselves with these rules and carry a copy, along with a USGA Rules of Golf book, in their golf bag.  The USGA has been working over the last few years to make the rules more user-friendly.  If you avoided reading a rule book in the past, try again.  It is the responsibility of the competitor to KNOW THE RULES (Rule 6).  The rules are your friend and can actually save you strokes!
